Leelannee K. Malin, PhD

Dr. Leelannee K. Malin is a communications practitioner and assistant professor with two decades of experience in the communications and educational industry. Malin, a three-time HBCU alumna and graduate of the Women’s Executive Leadership Institute from Tucks School of Business is currently a faculty member at Xavier University of Louisiana and Georgetown University. Malin is committed to cultivating the next generation of industry leaders through her work as a practitioner and academician and has made a name as an advocate for women’s issues and HBCU student leader development.
She has worked at Montgomery College as an adjunct lecturer and at Howard University. During her tenure at Howard, she served as lecturer and sequence coordinator in the Howard University Cathy Hughes School of Communications before serving as Director of the Annenberg Honors Program and subsequently Associate Dean for Community Engagement & Strategic Partnerships. In these roles she has directed the CapComm Lab student run Integrated Marketing firm and served as advisor for Adopt-A-Team Programs supporting partnerships with NBC Universal and CBS. She has been instrumental in streamlining student and alumni communication strategy, developing an undergraduate student research agenda and developing sustainable job and internship partnerships for students.
As a public relations practitioner and owner of Malin PR, she specializes in brokering community partnerships in the educational, sports and entertainment, nonprofit and corporate communications sectors. Her professional credits include managing projects with the NFL
Players Association, IMPACT, The Miss USA franchise, Essence Music Festival, MTV, Super Bowl activations and professional athletes and government agencies.
Her research, writing and speaking agenda includes gender stereotypes, television and film studies, strategic communications, sport and popular culture. Her has been featured in the League of Women in Government, the National Black Public Relations Society, the University of Texas @ Austin, George Mason University, Georgetown University and academic publications. The intersection of her business and academic savvy extends beyond the traditional classroom. Dr. Malin uses her professional practice to offer professional development support and advisement to her peers in the industry in her role as President on the executive board of the DC Chapter of Women in Sports and Events (WISE), served on the educational advisory board for the Newseum and is a mentor for the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) annual Student Multimedia Projects program.
A NOLA girl at heart, Dr. Malin splits her time between Maryland and New Orleans continuing to love charbroiled oysters, king cake and all things black and gold.
